The Great Blue Heron Casino is located on Scugog Island, just east of the community of Port Perry, Ontario, and northeast of Toronto. Both the Casino and the land on which it is built are owned by the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation. The First Nation theme is carried throughout the facility, in the interior art and is especially noticeable in the signature red, blue and cream colour roof.

The Great Blue Heron Gaming Company, a partnership of Casinos Austria, the Steiner Family, and Sonco Gaming, operates the Casino. The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation manages the slots, while the Baagwating Community Association, a non-profit, charitable organization formed by the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, manages the table games. Revenues and profits are distributed among the parties, and to various charitable organizations, based upon contractual sharing arrangements.

Opened originally in 1997, with gaming tables and a 650-seat bingo hall, the Casino was extensively renovated in 1999 and 2000. Its floor area is approximately 25,000 square feet (2,300 m2), in which there are now two bars, one restaurant, a slots' room with 545 machines and a 60 table games. The table games include: Roulette, Blackjack, Spanish 21, Mini Baccarat, Let it Ride Poker, Texas Hold Em Poker, Pai Gow Poker, Three & Four Card Poker and Texas Hold Em Bonus Poker. As of 1999, there is no longer a bingo hall on premises.

Poker Now at Great Blue Heron Casino! December 4, 2019 9:51 pm Open daily from noon to 4 a.m. GCG had closed the 11-table poker room at Woodbine, and will be closing the Great Blue Heron room (used to have 10 tables) on June 25. Gateway-operated Rama has increased its cash game rake to $10 max (from $6), which is the highest of all the casinos I have played in North America for 1/2.

The Casino is currently receiving renovations that will be completed in July of 2020.[1] The expansion includes a 100 room hotel as well as a 20,000 square foot addition to hold more slots and tables and a 500 seat entertainment centre.[2]

Here are some important changes you should know:

  • Cell phones can be used at the poker table, when you do not have cards. No talking on the phone at the table.
  • All buy ins are to be done at the cage, cash does not play
  • New Players do not have to post – unless they want to come in on the dead puck or small blind
  • Minimum $2 rake once there is a flop
  • Rake is always taken from the main pot first. If rake from the main pot is less than max rake, the remaining rake will be taken from the side pot
  • Reduced rake is taken when 4 or less players are dealt in
  • When 2 players receive the same rank card when drawing cards, suit will determine the winner.
  • When seat changing, you must post when moving away from the blinds and ‘jump over’ 2 live players.
  • When Table changing, you become a New Player – meaning you must meet buy in requirements
  • After leaving a table, you cannot return with less chips than you left with, unless an hour has passed
  • Meal break ends once you return to the table, you must return your Meal sign to the Inspector.
  • Showdown – if there wasn’t a river bet, the player that was first to act (check) is to open first, otherwise, it is the last aggressor.
  • Showdown –only players that are still in possession of their cards may ask to see a mucked hand.
  • 50% raise rule – in both Limit and No Limit, when a player puts out at least 50% of a raise, they must put out a minimum raise.
  • Out of Turn action is binding (including verbal), as long as action does not change.

LIMIT POKER

  • Short all-in raises that are less than 50% of the raise will not count as a raise. Raises after a short all-in of less than 50% will complete the raise.
  • Short all-in raises that are at least 50% will count as a raise, any raise after this will be a full raise on top of the all-in amount.
  • Betting will be reopened to a player that has already acted if they are facing at least 50% of a bet/raise.

NO LIMIT POKER

  • All raises must be done in one motion. You may not say raise, then put out the call amount, and then put out the raise amount.
Anything that was not done in one continuous motion, without pause will be considered a string.
